Tapered Leaders

The use of Tapered leaders for distance casting under International rules (FIPS) is not allowed. The International rules state Parallel leaders are to be used for line weights:  .25, .28, .31 and .35mm. This is the system used for World Casting Tournaments and most Governing Surfcasting and Casting  organisations in their respective countries. In accordance with international guidelines, braid cannot be used for distance casting either.

Many fisherman in New Zealand just want to cast with their fishing gear which includes their tapered leaders. The NZACA have now brought in a casting system which allows them to do just that. There are only 2 requirements:

1.       that the tapered leaders must be high vis so that if they snap off they can be easily found (so we don’t get in trouble from the grounds men)

2.       the mainline must be a minimum of .25mm (approx 10lb depending on the brand of line used)

This will give the general public and club members the opportunity to come along to an event and have a go without having to buy any special gear. Once someone can consistently cast over 170m they’ll need to step up to A grade (NZIR) which requires slightly different terminal gear to be used. Under the NZACA RULES, casters will be placed in grades (A, B & C) according to their average casting distance

Clarification

Hello to all our member Clubs. I would like to clear up any thought that Accuracy casting has been removed from the NZACA Nationals. This is not the case, it has never been considered by the Executive and it certainly would not happen without the thoughts of our member clubs.

Both Accuracy and Distance Casting will remain as part of the NZACA Nationals.

If you have recieved information to the contrary it is totally incorrect.

Accuracy will not be involved in the three regional Distance Casting events, however we would welcome any clubs, in the area that these regionals, wishing to run an Accuracy event in conjunction to take up the offer.

It is the wish of the Executive that clubs run Postal Casting events and ask that you all embrace that. It is an opportunity for clubs to get together as part of fostering fun competition between fellow fishers.

Why?

It is that time of year when most of our Affiliated Clubs and some who are on the fringes, are about to have their AGM’s. This brings new Committees and new direction. It is also the time when the question is asked who is the NZACA and why should we belong.
The NZ Angling & Casting Association is not all about a National Championship nor is it all about the promoting of and running quality Casting events both under NZACA and International Rules. It is not all about Records and trophies. It is not all about being representitive of our members in the protection of our fisheries and your rights as citizens of NZ to fish them nor the fact we are at the table with the ministry to have your questions answered. It is not all about bringing our members quality Sponsorship and rewards.
IT IS ABOUT BRINGING ALL OF THE ABOVE TO YOU.
This organisation represents you at every level and does it so you can enjoy the rights you have to sit on our beaches and gather food that is ours to share. If your Club is Affiliated awesome, if not, look at joining us. The rewards are growing. For $10 per annum per member or 20c per week, the NZACA offers you strong and solid support, represents you at many tables, promotes great cammeraderie along with many opportunities to help your club grow.

Executive Meeting 23rd May

A fantastic NZACA Executive meeting yesterday with so much discussed and sorted. We begin the year with a very sound financial base and have in ever increasing membership base. We also have incredible support from other entities within the whole recreational fishing sector. The NZ Angling & Casting Association is in a very good space. We also welcomed our new Secretary Nadia Gillies. Not only did she turn up to take the minutes she bought a fantastic spread for morning tea and lunch. The Executive also welcomed the new Treasurer, Jack Sanders of Sportslink.
Some of the agenda items of note were.
The adoption of the draft Distance Casting rules. These rules are a very well written and incorporate those wishing to cast NZACA (NZ Rules) or under International rules. They are for our Regional casting events only and once we have tweeked a couple of them they will be announced, both on here and the NZ Distance Casting page.
Speaking of Casting. I must take a moment to acknowledge the efforts and time that Jock Bielski, our previous Casting Coordinator, who has decided to not continue in this position. Jock was a very passionate person when it came to casting and became very well known and respected all around our membership. Thank you Jock. You passion will be missed and you will be hard to replace.
We are going to improve our Trophies and Cups. This may require us to replace like with like, as some are in a poor state because of age. Our number of Trophies, that overlap, is also being looked at.
The updated Constitution has been signed off and will be heading to the appropriate authorities next week.
We discussed a Junior Championship.
We now have a complete Registered Membership list on a Data base. Whilst this is now loaded on our Website, it is only accessable via password. I must mention the top effort from Marko Lucas from the Gisborne Club for getting this all up and running. New forms will be out to Clubs next week also. Take a look at these when they come and you will see how simple they are to complete.
New NZ and Association flags, new Casting Court are also being purchased.
So much more was tabled and discussed for revisiting at our next meeting.
Another matter of note is, the Executive are taking the meetings around our regions. The next four will be in Auckland, BOP, Gisborne and Hawkes Bay. From there we have discussed Taranaki. This allows our members to sit in and see how we are looking after them and also to have a guest speaker to address us.

NZ Angling & Casting News and Chat

 Hello everyone,

With the 2015 Nationals complete and the AGM concluded one would think a breather would be the order of the day. I am sure it is coming but until all is signed off we will stick to the task. To date, all the results, AGM Draft Minutes and next years Nationals info has gone out to all Clubs. The Constitution has been rewritten with all the agreed changes included and now only needs signing off and sending to the Incorporated Societies and the IRD. An immense vote of thanks to my Senior VP, Karla for seeing these to conclusion. A massive effort.

Regarding the Nationals. Although once again not as well attended as one would wish but certainly a number that is reflective of the total membership, these Nationals were a great success. The interest, the keenness, the participation and the camaraderie were of the highest degree. The speed in which the results were attained was exceptional and with no errors to speak of. A testament to the girls involved in the whole process. The evening BBQ was the icing on the cake. This was supplied by the Association and went down well with the members who stayed on and enjoyed the socializing. Our new Hospitality tent was received as well as we expected, with many very positive comments.

To the 2015/16 year. Already we have one more Club re affiliate. Another club soon to do so and still another newly forming land based club who we have advised to wait until the end of May. There are other positives along the same lines already appearing on the horizon.

As already alluded to, the Association is promoting Competition Casting at a higher level. We wish these to be high quality events that encompass’s those that wish to cast their normal fishing set ups, to those of the elite Casters wishing to cast under International rules. We also wish to have those from the public to be involved so that they can see for themselves, the value and also enjoy the camaraderie that is shared amongst us.  More to come very soon.

I have been asked to enlighten you all on what I mean by aligning the NZ Angling & Casting Association with the NZ Sports Fishing Council and also LegaSea. Firstly, the NZACA has and will always retain its own identity and space. We will operate and function as always and we are under no obligations to either of the other two organisations. By alignment, all that means, in this instance, is that we accept and support the same interests and manner in which we achieve them, in protecting our fisheries and our right to fish them. We will sit alongside them at the table when meeting with the Ministry and we will support each other in achieving the same common goals. By supporting and being involved in LegaSea, we have on hand the most amazing information and valuable detail to aid us in submissions and the like. I have received the most humbling support and mentoring from this group and believe it has helped me be a better person and President in many, many ways. Not only that, from this alignment, some incredible doors have been opened for the NZACA to go forward and grow.

As alluded to in my Presidents Report to the AGM, the Executive will be reviewing Trophies, Records, Application Forms, Membership Cards etc over the coming year and will report to all Clubs as we arrive at our conclusion of each issue for thoughts.

We welcome our new Secretary Nadia. Nadia has experience in working as a Secretary in sporting organisations and brings some quality to the NZACA. I trust you will all get to meet her along the way. We also welcome a very humble Gordon Jones, our new Patron for the NZ Angling & Casting Association. A man who has been involved for 50 plus years and no one could be more deserving than Gordon in holding this Honoured position.

The Executive are planning to bring the meetings to our regions throughout the year. Whilst our first one will be in Rotorua, our second one will be held in Auckland. This is so that we can give the opportunity to our members to join us and see how we manage your interests. It also gives us the chance to provide some quality speakers who are offering to be available to us. More to come, but keep an eye out for when we are visiting.

Once again thank you for your continued support. We are working hard for you on many fronts and all for the betterment of the Association.
